For those worried about possible movement when installing hardwood flooring over under-floor heating or in a conservatory, then engineered boards are the answer. (We do not recommend it be installed over electric under-floor heating). Two styles are available.

Legacy engineered boards
We can offer two top-of-the range engineered oak boards: the Legacy Rustic and Legacy Warwick. Both – when laid –  are indistinguishable from solid planking. Combining a 6mm face veneer with a 14.6mm ply backing Legacy gives real stability with traditional tongued and grooved locking on all edges. And it combines an attractive bevel to emphasise the separate planks (see photos).

Legacy Rustic is available in two widths : 180mm and 240mm, with a useful length of 2.1 metres (average). It is laid conventionally on joists or chipboard using secret nailing as a conventional load bearing floor, or it can be glued using the recommended adhesive (Rewmar MS Polymer) directly to a dry concrete screed.

Available in a choice of finishes, such as smoked, natural lacquered, or stained and distressed for that antiqued appearance. Alternatively it can be supplied as a sanded finished ("unfinished") for you to put on your own choice of finish. We recommend Osmo Poly-X Oil for this purpose.

After installation it will give years of service and can be re-sanded and re-sealed several times. And if this is your first attempt at flooring we have a useful guide here. Price quoted below is per sq metre. (All prices subject to VAT).

Continental is keener on price particularly due to the wide width of the board - 220mm, whilst still boasting a 6mm solid oak character veneer. The flooring is unfinished, ie has shakes and holes filled and is planed ready for a light sand and sealing on site. We recommend Osmo Poly-X oil is applied after installation for sealing the floor. Continental has a micro-bevel to the longitudinal edges that emphasis that traditional planked look, the boards are also TG & EM, 6mm tread layer and 15mm multi layers of birch ply.

NORMANDY pre-primed engineered board

A very versatile product range – it is thinner – this flooring has a 3mm tread of character grade French Oak pre-finished with natural matt oil. The engineered core gives the board strength and stability and is finished with a ply back. It is micro beveled on the longitudinal edges, which gives an illusion, when fitted, of traditional plank flooring. The boards are filled primed and have two coats of oil, we recommend that after installation a final coat of OSMO Poly-X oil should be applied.

There are three widths of 220mm, 189mm and 148mm, and each board has a fixed length of 1.84m. All widths can be inter-joined to create a visually stunning appearance that emulates traditional solid oak plank flooring. Please note that this range is sold in fixed width packs.

This product is suitable for most domestic situations and over some under-floor heating systems. For installation underlay, OSMO Poly-X oil and glue are required.
