Here's plenty of choice
Since 1985 we have been supplying traditional solid planked floorboards. We carry a wide range in stock, both finished and unfinished and it is still our biggest seller. In recent years what is known as "engineered flooring" has improved considerably in quality and choice. This design consists of a solid timber veneer, of various thicknesses, glued to a ply backing (see photo below right). This type of flooring when laid is virtually indistinguishable from solid flooring but does offer minimal movement due to shrinkage or expansion and is a safer choice in more challenging environments.
Solid oak plank flooring is often specified in period or listed dwellings and is the preferred option when laid across joists. Most modern houses – at least on the ground floor – tend to have a concrete slab rather than a void, so engineered flooring (see below) can be laid on top of a flooring-grade chipboard.

Engineered pre-finished flooring
We stock pre-finished boards in oak. They are usually 20mm thick with a 6mm wear layer (or 15mm with a 4mm wear layer) and are laid as a floating floor over a foam underlay. They are quicker and easier to install as they do not require sanding and sealing on site. Some engineered boards are unfinished you to stain and/or seal to the desired finish.
Our 15mm engineered pre-finished board is available in prime and character oak. The 'one-strip' is 136mm wide and resembles a plank when laid. The 'three strip' is 210 mm wide and resembles a strip floor when laid.
