We have been making ledged and boarded doors since 1985 and they now grace homes from flats to manor housed throughout the U.K. They have been written about in local and national press and in many home improvement and period home magazines. Elegantly simple in their construction, they are purchased by professional and amateur alike, both in kit form and fully assembled.
All the wood shown on this website is oak, unless otherwise stated.
Two versions are offered: assembled or in kit form. You would save about £40 by putting it together yourself. A choice of wide or narrow boards is offered (see photos right).
Wide board doors consist of 3 wide vertical planks for a door up to 33" wide and three 7" wide horizontal ledges.
Multi-board doors have approximately 5 vertical boards and 4 horizontal ledges. The number of planks and their widths can vary according to availability.

Door Kits
The traditional ledged and boarded door has been proven through the centuries. It is easy to assemble for anyone with fairly basic knowledge of carpentry to assemble the door from components. The vertical boards are assembled by pushing the tongues and grooves together, and the ledges are then cut to length and screwed to them.
The ledges (and braces) are grooved to take a matching wooden bead which is pressed into place to hide the screw heads, as well as adding an attractive detail to the door.
Each door kit is supplied with boards cut to the width and length specified. If requested the boards can be left long – ideal for these awkward shaped doorways in old houses. The kit consists of vertical boards, horizontal ledges, cover beads and screws.
In order to keep our prices competitive, we do not polish the doors, but every kit or assembled door is supplied with a fine finish for you to stain or polish. We recommend using Osmo Hardwax Oil.
Prices for door heights 6ft to 6ft 10ins: remember we can cut to your size door opening . (All prices subject to VAT).
NB Before ordering our doors please see our "door handing reference sheet".
